Editorial policy

69 News aims to explain news processes accurately and fairly. We distinguish explanation from opinion, avoid presenting uncertainty as certainty and make changes when a published detail needs correction.

Accuracy and context

Writers should check names, dates, quotations and other factual details against appropriate material before publication. Claims are presented with enough context to avoid giving a misleading impression. When information is incomplete or disputed, the wording should make that clear rather than imply a settled answer.

Independence

Editorial decisions are made for readers, not as a condition of a commercial relationship. Partners do not choose coverage, approve editorial conclusions or receive a promise of favourable treatment. We do not imply that an explanation is independent if a partner has shaped its substance.

Corrections and updates

Readers can use the Contact page to flag a possible error and identify the relevant article and detail. We review correction requests, amend confirmed errors and clarify material changes where appropriate. Updates should not quietly alter the meaning of a report.

Partner material and illustrations

Paid, sponsored or otherwise partner-supported material is labelled clearly so readers can distinguish it from independent editorial work. Some illustrations may be generated with AI; when that is the case, we identify them as AI-generated and do not present them as documentary evidence.
